This is a specific regional style and influence within traditional Irish music that derived originally from musicians from west of Ireland rural farming communities in south Sligo and close to the north east Mayo and north Roscommon county borders.
Three of the most famous musicians of the 20th century, Michael Coleman, Paddy Killoran and James Morrison emigrated to New York in the 1920’s when and where they made the first available commercial recordings of traditional Irish music that were to have a major and long lasting impact and influence within traditional Irish music.
