Irish Elders Outreach

Despite the many success stories of the Irish in Britain, The Irish Arts Foundation understands the hardships faced by many elderly members of our community in terms of socio-economic hardship, marginalisation and isolation. In addition to the excellent welfare programmes of organisations such as Leeds Irish Health & Homes, The IAF provides a range of performances and workshops directed towards vulnerable and elderly Irish people in residential homes and day centres across Leeds.
These workshops allow members of the community to experience Irish Music, arts & dance, reminisce their memories of Ireland through song and talk about their experiences of emigration and life in Britain.

Here are some quotes from clients at various centres:

“We really enjoyed the lovely music, it made me think of being young in Ireland, I haven’t heard those songs in such a long time"
